eNg Designs & Construction Interviews In House Custom Home Designer

You could get a prefab house from pretty much anywhere, but custom homes that fit your life without compromise are rare. At eNg Designs & Construction, Kevin Mausethwe’re all about bringing that special extra touch to homes without skimping on the latest interior design trends and ideas. I asked my fabulous friend Kevin Mauseth, an interior design expert, on some of the things he would recommend including in custom homes. Boy does he have a lot of exciting items to share! Without further ado, I’ll let Kevin take it away!

Your Custom Home – 5 Steps To Perfection

As an interior designer and industry professional, I’ve seen and done a lot of things in the custom home space. I want to suggest five unique items for custom houses that maybe you haven’t considered. Who knows, maybe it’ll give you a great idea for your new home!

1. Connected Laundry Rooms

Consider building a laundry room that is connected to the master closet or bathroom. Adding an additional door to the mud room allows dirty clothes, gym bags from the car, and messy kid outfits to be washed promptly. Plus, it’s out of sight from visiting guests!

2. Ceiling Volume

Single level homes free up attic spaces for really cool design features. Vaulted ceilings, tray ceilings, coffers, and raised ceiling heights in the great room are just a couple of ideas.

3. Outdoor Space

Here in Hammond LA, a good covered outdoor space is a must. You’ll want both shade and protection from bad weather. Sometimes you’ll just have that crazy itch to grill in December! That’s why covered porches are essential to custom homes.

4. Big Garages

Garages are very important. Consider adding a secondary garage for toys or tools, separated by a wall and door. This keeps your main garage nice and tidy while storing items in a space not as open.

5. Shared Bathrooms

Ideal for kids, shared bathrooms are great en-suites in guest rooms or hobby spaces. I personally follow the ‘1 bath per bedroom + a half for guests’ rule, but shared baths make sense in many situations. This gives each bedroom access to a bathroom, and offers guests a dedicated space apart from kid toiletries.

BONUS Item: Butlers’ Pantries

Scullery spaces are growing in popularity. Install a pantry with extra countertop space, sinks, or even dishwashers. These areas make great serving bars for parties, and leave the kitchen counters for snacks and other nibbles. I guarantee that in five years we’ll see this room become commonplace in custom homes.
