I like to blog about my favorite things in home design like lighting and custom builds. But today is about the biggest question I get from customers! I get this ALL the time: ‘what home floor plan is right for me?’ As a home builder, what you think I would say is, ‘that depends.’ But what I’m here to tell you is, ‘I’ve got some ideas!’
At eNg Designs & Construction, my passion is to help clients find, design, and build the perfect home. This includes finding a home floor plan that fits your lifestyle. So let’s hop in to discuss how I help clients choose the right floor plan.
How A Home Builder Suggests You Choose The Right Floor Plan
Clients need to understand their needs (for the draftsmen’s sake, too)! If your contractor and designer work together from the beginning, the flow of your floor plan will be SO easy.
Before you start looking at home floor plans, understand your current needs. That means considering family size, location, and lifestyle. It also means thinking ahead! Start with these questions:
- How many people will be living at home? Will it change in the future?
- What kind of rooms do you need? Offices, nursery, guest rooms, etc.?
- Which rooms do you spend the most time in? Do you want your mudroom close to the garage? Large laundry rooms with utility sinks? What about open concept living space?
Don’t be afraid to dig into your answers. Questions like these will define the look of your custom home.
Two of my partners, Madden Home Design and House Plan Zone, offer a little something for everyone. They provide seriously gorgeous home designs, all of which can be customized to meet particular needs. Let’s dive into a few of the most popular ones and discuss how to choose the right floor plan for you.
Home Floor Plan Options
Stock plans are harder to utilize when the needs and wants of clients aren’t apparent. Flesh out your ideas with these pointers!
1. Be Our Guest
The layout of your custom home should accommodate family members and guests alike. This means vast kitchens, large entertainment spaces, and plenty of extra bedrooms!
Madden’s The Jasmine is a lovely home that works perfectly for large families expecting lots of guests. Its single-story layout means limited noises from upper layers. It also provides a bonus room and office space, both of which could be converted into sleeping spaces.
2. Outdoor Space
Your home floor plan is directly tied to outdoor space in more ways than one! If you’re an outdoorsy person, be sure to choose a floor plan that provides excellent relaxation opportunities.
House Plan Zone’s Ridge Crest Plan has two huge front and back porch options, super customizable and super private. It’s great for those of you who love to be outside.
3. Consider Your Budget
I know, I know; total buzzkill, right? But it’s important to know how much you can spend on a custom home before signing any contracts. Maybe you need to start smaller or sacrifice certain features. The point is: you need to know before you go!
Both Madden and House Plan Zone offer homes that fall into many unique budget plans. You can give us a call to get a quote at any time!
